The Brother MFC printer copy scanners fax all in one office equipment toner based models  are good durable home office and small office machines. The Brother MFC models range from small inexpensive color ink based models to the 9940CN color all in one printer copier scanner faxes for small business (3..5 people).  Just like all equipment routine maintenance repairs are needed to keep them running.  One of the most common problems with the one based Brother MfC’s, as with all brands of printer copier scanners, are paper jams repairs.

95% of all paper jam repair maintenance problems with printer scanner copiers MFC  occur in three places: (1) ADf automatic document feeder on the top of the unit,  (2) in the plain paper drawer and (3) in the fuser area paper getting stuck drum the drum area.  The printer copier repair for the first two areas are not expensive repairs. They both require replacing the paper pick up assembly or roller and the paper separation pad or assembly. In fact, on some Brother MFC the printer copier scanner repair needed i indicated on the LCD “replaced PF1 fit” or “replaced PF2 kit”.  Both the PF1 and PF2 brother paper repair maintenance feed kits are USER replaceable. You do not need a technician to do the repair 95% of the time if you ave basic skills with a standard screw driver.

The Brother MFC fuser repair paper jam problem is a bit more expensive to repair. The fuser assembly on all brands of printers copiers scanners are considered normal wear and tear parts. In other words, they wear out over time and require repair or replacement.  ON some printer copier scanner fax machines repairing the fuser is as simple as removing a couple of screws. On other brands it requires you to remove covers, power supplies and other components.  On large copier printer new fuser as so expensive that most technicians rebuild them and the manufacturer offers a copier printer maintenance kits that contains all the parts to repair rebuild the fuser assemblies.  The Brother MFC printer copier scanners fuser are not rebuilt but just replaced as a unit.  Most Brother MFC’s fuser copier printer repair maintenance take an technician lessthan 30 minutes to complete.

You will notice several of copier printer repair errors are very similar.  Many times several repair copier printer maintenance codes point to the same problem in different ways. Example are the pressure roller error codes related to the temperature which indicates that he thermal control parts of the fuser assembly of the printer copier need to be replaced. In some models this entails the actual replacement of just the thermistors. Advanced Business Computers is very experienced in the repair of copier printers scanners in the Southeast Florida areas. If you need further help in determine what an error code means please post a question here on this blog.

One of the most common problems beyond the regular HP maintenance repair kit installation is the failure of laser printers communication with the network.  If you HP printer, Lexmark laser or other laser printer fails to print a job then you need to check your communications.   On a network when you send a print job it goes through your switch to the laser printers Nic (network) card (HP jetdirect) and then to the laser printer copier formatter board.

The first item to check when repairing your Hp printer problem is your network cable on your printer copier to make sure its seated well in the printer and the network switch.  At the same time check to see if your NIC card (HP jetdirect card) shows a green light.  If the card does not show a green light then it is not communicating with the network or the formatter card in the printer. If this happens first install a new NIC card to repair the printer copier problem. IF the new card still does not show a light then either the formatter is bad or the network connection.

If you have a second network printer then take the network cable out  of the printer having the repair problem and put it in to the other printer to eliminate the switch and network cable as being the printer repair problem. If the cable works in the other printer then you know you will need to replace the formatter and possibly the jetdirect card.  If the connection does not work on the other printer then you have a network problem (bad cable, switch, other).  Repairing printer copiers communication problems is a process of elimination.

When repairing your HP printer or other brand copier printer  make sure you follow logical steps in eliminating possible printer failure to communicate problems. Half the battle in repairing copier printers is knowing what the error codes mean.  If you are not familiar with copier printer repair terminology then you will need the complete service manual for the Ricoh, Lanier, Gestetner and Savin printer copier scanners to repair them.  Some copier printer repair maintenance codes are misleading for example motor lock does not mean you need to replace the motor. You may need to replace a gear set or during the repair of the copier printer find the paper clip or staple that is causing the motor to jam. If you need further assistance contact Advanced Business Computers in Southeast Florida.

What the the normal cases of lines on printer copier fax machines?  Resolving lines on pages is as easy as cleaning the glass in the adf area and as difficult to repair rebuild copier printer fuser assembly.  First, lines are caused usually caused by one of the three following printer copier repair problems: dirty glass in the scanner area, bad drum/blade,  or fuser assembly maintenance needed.  depending upon your printer copier scanner follow the following steps to determine the cause of your printer repair maintenance needs.

First, does the line show up when you are printing, copying or both? If the copier printer fax multi-function equipment is producing lines only when you fax out then the problem is the scanner glass. You will need to open the ADF (automatic document feeder) which is the part you feed the pager you are trying to copy or fax out.  Fine the scanner glass which is usually 1 inch in length and 11 to 17″ long. Cleaning the scanner glass is a regular Copier printer maintenance that does not require a technician. Remember, I am not talking about the large glass on the flat bed of your copier printer scanner.  The automatic feeder has a separate scan glass in the ADF area usually designed for easy access.

If you are getting lines if when printing or if the scanner glass is not the cause then you need to check the fuser and/or drum/developer unit of your printer copier fax multi-function device.  Depending upon you equipment this may require a copier printer repair technician to perform the task. If the line are horizontal across the page they the get a bit lighter after a few pages (you need to print several pages at one time) then its the drum unit causing the problem. If the lines are pencil thin then it is usually the drum unit too.

The fuser assembly on your copier printer may need a complete maintenance kit or replacement depending upon you model if your printer copier repair problem consist of thick lines or lines that are not solid all the way down the page.  Put out the fuser assembly and see if the upper heat roller coating is wearing away.  when repairing copier printers the technicians can determine the problem if less than 30 minutes. Remember to get certified printer copier repair maintenance service technicians. Be careful of one man operations or companies that can not explain over the phone print copier repair costs.

the fuser assembly is the part the uses pressure and heat to melt (Fuse) the toner to the paper on copier printer fax machines. The actual fuser assembly has several parts that will cause sc521, sc541, sc542 and other Ricoh, Savin, Gestetner and Lanier error codes.  If you are hainvg a call service repair maintenance with one of the following codes then you have a problem with the fuser assembly.

SC531 copier repair error means the thermistor is open.  The thermistor is a temperature gauge that sends signals to the for matter of the copier printer. the repair requires replacing one or more thermistors in the printer copier  fuser assembly.

sc541 ricoh savin error is a temperature warm up area which means the fuser is not reaching the right temperature to fuser the toner to the paper.

SC543 si the opposite of SC541. This copier repair error code means the fuser is getting too heat and can not regulate itself.  Just as in the SC541 and sc531 the copier repair requires replacing the thermistors.  Also, the thermostat my need replacing.

SC544 is the basically the same printer fax repair error as the error code sc542.

SC545 and sc546 means the fuser can not maintain a stable temperature.  This copier repair is usually solve with replacing the thermistors and may require the replacement of the heating element in the fuser assembly.

SC547 Savin, Gestetner, Lanier and Ricoh error code means that the hot roller does not increase in temperature when required.  This error code is repaired by replacing the thermistors. thermalstat and/or heating unit.

SC550 means the fusing web needs to be replaced on the Rioch, Savin, Lanier or Gestetner copier printer scanner. the fusing web is a roll that lubricates some models of copiers fuser heat roller.  If you do not do the copier repair maintenance replacement of the fuser web then it will cause paper jams and damage to the fuser assembly.

There are several other fuser error codes for the Ricoh Lanie Savin and Gestetner copier scanner. If you have a code and need information to solve the repair the copier printer please contract Advanced Business Computers Inc or post a request here for more help.

Do you own or lease  a color printer or digital copier? One of the most common problems with color printers and color copiers is understanding the causes of image problems and how to determine the printer copier repair image problem.  The one one problem is a repeated or light reprint of a previous image on the same page.

The first step is to determine which color or colors are causing the repeat printer copier repair problem.  Do the following to isolate the actual drum or toner repair problem  of your digital copier or printer scanner:

Step 1:  Print a normal word or excel document but only using the color black.  If some of the text is not in black temporary change it to black.  You do not want any other color except for the one you are testing.

Step 2:  Repeat step one but switch to only using yellow, blue and magenta colors.  This is  a way to isolate the actual cause of the printer copier problem so you can determine the correct repairs needed.

Step 3: Look at each print out. Which ones show the printer copier repair image problem? If you only see it on the black pages then the problem is related to the black toner or black drum unit.  Your color copier printer has one toner per color and in most systems one drum per color.  You are trying to determine if the printer copier problem is related to just certain colors or all colors.

Step 4:  If the printer repair or copier repair image problem follows certain colors then you will either need to replace the drum or the toner cartridge. If your color copier printer has separate drums and toners then replace the drum unit. Otherwise replace the toner which contains the toner and drum. If you are not sure contact us and we will look up the model of your printer copier problem and tell which one needs to be replaced.

Step 5:  f the Color printer copier image repair problem follows all the colors then the cause is either the fuser assembly or the imaging belt unit.  the replacement of the fuser or imaging may require a certified copier or printer repair technician.

If you have other copier printer repair image problems please fell free to comment or ask questions through this blog or contact Advanced Business Computers in Miami. Color image image problem solving does not require vast printer or copier repair expertise.

Laser printers copiers and scanners require power surge protection just like you computer.  However, many companies make the fatal mistake of using UPS,  partial protection or the low joules surge protectors that are ineffective.  Let’s first address the copier printer scanner fatal mistake of using a UPS.

Printer copier faxes require a different type of surge protection than computers. If you have a computer and value your data and software then you should be using a UPS (battery power surge with surge protection) especially if you live in areas such as the lightening capital of America Miami or other areas with frequent thunder storms.  When the power  goes out the UPS will maintain power to your compute and monitor with an UPS for a set period of time. This time gives you the ability to normally shut down your computer without data lose.  However, you should never connect your printer, copier or fax machine to the UPS. Copier printers and fax machines draws too much amperage (different from voltage).  The amperage will shorten the life of your UPS and cause possible cause power feed back which destroy printer formatter, copier network connections and cost you a major printer copier repair bill. Put them on a good surge protector instead (see below about Joule ratings lightening spike stopping power)

The second power concern is not protecting all aspects of your copier printer scanner.  Most people realize that you need to protect the power line of the equipment. However, we receive more copier printer repair technician calls for failed communication boards due to power spikes than power supplies. If you have a copier printer fax scanner network then you have three possible sources of surges that will cause a major printer copier repair bill: one the power cord, two the network connection and three the telephone line. If you do not have a fax then you have copier repair exposure on your power and network connection.   Do not assume that you only need power connections protection to prevent printer or copier repairs. Power surges have a tendency to jump cables and your network connection line is use to 5 volts not a power spike of hundreds of volts.

Finally, you need to know the joules rating of your surge protector.  If you assume that all surge protection is the same then we will see you soon for a copier, printer or fax repair. If you live in Miami, Ft. Lauderdale or other areas of South Florida using a cheap low joules protector is like playing Russian roulette.  When you purchase a copier printer surge protector you need to look at the joules rating. The higher the joules rating the better the device.  Look for joules rating of 1200 or above. Then look at the connections. Does it have everything you need: power, network and phone protection?  When ask we always supply 2,400 joules protection for equipment in Miami.  Florida is the lightening capital of the US and South Florida is the lightening capital of Florida!

Proper power protection protects your against expensive repair on copiers printer faxes and scanners. get 1,200 or better yet 2,400 joules sure protectors. They are not expensive and then can save you hundreds in copier printer repair services.

Does your company lease or have a maintenance agreement for copier printer scanner multi-function office equipment from Sharp, Xerox, Canon, Minolta, Toshiba, Ricoh or other company?  Do you know your options at lease end can greatly reduce costs while improving efficiencies of your office?

First let’s be realistic: Leasing companies are interested in one thing and one thing only to Lock you into a 3 to 5 year lease so nobody else can offer you better equipment, pricing or service.  They want to move new hardware and lock you for several years because they have quotas to meet from Canon, Sharp, Ricoh, Minolta or they loose their dealership.

Point One: How do you know?  Do the following: ask your dealer what brands they offer new. If they only  offer one brand or a brand series all made by the same company then you know they have quotas to meet and they have an agenda to move hardware whenever they can.

“…they have an agenda to trap you for years”

If this is the case, be careful! Just because it’s a well known brand does not mean it’s the most cost effective or efficient equipment for you!

Point two: Bugging you way before renewal time. This is another tactic to trap you even longer and to move more equipment again. If your equipment is functioning well and it meets your needs then why are they bugging you?

Simple: They need to keep moving equipment to meet quotas and they do not want to take a chance that another company may offer you better equipment at a competitive price.  This is a tactic to lock you up for another bunch of years beyond your original contract of 3 to 5 years!

Point Three: Over billing for pages you do not use. This is the third and most abused tactic of copier printer scanning leasing companies. Include pages in the lease that they know you will never use. They will ask you what is your estimated monthly volume then they add a few thousand pages and quote you the bunch of pages at a seeming low price.

Did you know 87% of he companies who fall for this tactics actually costs you 243% to 380% more per page than quoted because you never use up all the allocated monthly or quarterly pages?

Why pay for pages you never use? There is no page overage or lease refund! You pay the monthly price even if you do not print a single page.

“….costs you 243% to 380% more per page than quoted.”

Why are these three points important?

Simple: Your company’s’ business is to make money. You do this by offering your product and service while keeping costs down on your needs to make a profit. Every dollar you save in actual costs and efficiencies increases your profits and pay check.

You have better options: Wait for Part II or request copier printer scanner maintenance and lease information form Advanced Business Computers Inc.

Printer copier, fax machines and other paper processing office equipment get paper jams. Sometimes it’s due to excessive wear of printer parts or copier document feeders. Paper jams will happen and require printer copier repair technicians. However, some jams are preventable and resolved easily without a printer or copier repair technician.

First, inspect the paper path from the feeder all the way out the printer copier. Turn off your digital copier or laser printer first. Check for paper clips, staples and excessive dirt. Remove any foreign material. Be careful of the fuser assembly which gets VERY HOT and can cause a burn.  If you see anything in the fuser wait until it cools down. Never use a metal or other hard object to stick into the fuser or you WILL CAUSE damage.

Second, If you find the sheet of paper inside the printer copier always pull the paper out in the direction of paper travel. Do not pull it out backwards.  Again be careful of the fuser assembly and turn the printer copier scanner off first.

Third, check to see if the paper you are using is within the specifications of the laser printer or digital copier. Do not use inkjet paper in a toner based photocopier or any laser printer. Most of the paper designed for ink based equipment has special coating that will damage fuser assemblies over time.

Forth, if the jams are happening at the paper tray or draw, then fan the paper. Check for static electricity. If the paper is sticking together then it can cause a jam.

Fifth, replace damp or moist paper. Do not store paper in a humid area and other the flip side if the paper is out it maybe too dried out.  Also, always make sure the paper is straight in the paper tray and adjust the paper guides so the feed rollers work better.

Finally, if you are not sure and you are in the Miami or Ft. Lauderdale areas of Florida contact Advanced Business Computers for additional laser printer or copier scanner repair help and maintenance.
