Hewlett Packard fusers assemblies are replaced every 80,000 to 2000,000 pages depending upon on the laser HP printer model.

The first step in repairing a fuser error is to turn off the HP printer and let the laserjet cool down for at least 30 minutes.  Unplug the power cord and then make sure the fuser assembly is cool. Remember the fuser assembly gets very hot which can causes serious burns – far warning. Now open the back of the printer (you may need to remove covers and/or exit trays). Remove the screws holding the printer repair part you are replacing (fuser) and slide out the unit. Slide in the replacement fuser assembly and reassemble the back of the HP laserjet printer you are repairing.

Some clients do not want to put in the whole assembly. The fuser assembly of an HP printer consists of several parts. In order to repair the Lexmark printer you will need to first power off the laser printer to cool down the fuser. Once it’s cooled down unplug the power form the Lexmark printer.

Now open the back and remove the fuser assembly. You may need to removed cables or wires that connect the fuser to the power supply. As again before you attempt to repair the Lexmark printer disconnect the power and let the fuser cool down! The fuser is heated to 180 degrees Celsius and can cause a serious burn.

Several clients ask if they can rebuild the Lexmark printer fuser assembly. It is possible and Lexmark doe sit all the time. However, unless you replace the entire roller, Thermister, thermostat, bearings, pick finger and have good mechanical abilities we do not recommend that you repair Lexmark fuser assemblies.

Lexmark Optra, S and T series have recommend maintenance schedules just as the higher end HP laser printers.  The Lexmark maintenance kits consist of the fuser assembly, paper feed rollers, transfer roller, and charge rollers. First let’s be realistic: Leasing companies are interested in one thing and one thing only Lock you into a 3 to 5 year lease so nobody else can offer you better equipment, pricing or service.  They want to move new hardware and lock you for several years because they have quotas to meet from Canon, Sharp, Ricoh, Minolta or they loose their dealership.

Point One: How do you know?

Do the following:  ask your dealer what brands they offer new.

If they only  offer one brand or a brand series all made by the same company then you know they have quotas to meet and they have an agenda to move hardware whenever they can.

If this is the case, be careful! Just because it’s a well known brand does not mean it’s the most cost effective or efficient equipment for you!

Point two:  Bugging you to upgrade your copier printer way before renewal time. This is another copier printer leasing company tactic to trap you even longer and to move more equipment again. If your equipment is functioning well and it meets your needs then why are they bugging you?  If it’s not working well or meeting your meets whey did they offer it in the first place? Why repeat the same mistake with people who only have one interest – sell more copier printers to get big fat commissions  and trap you again for a longer period.

Simple: They need to keep moving equipment to meet quotas and they do not want to take a chance that another company may offer you better equipment at a competitive price.  This is a tactic to lock you up for many years.

Ask quotes first.  Get the right copier printer scanner lease the first time.  Look at the copier lease agreement and make sure it spells out the exact cost to buyout the equipment before you sign. Do not let them have a 90 or even 60 advanced notice period for cancellation or buyout – it should be no more than 30 days!

The two laser printer MFD repair problems most associated are the ADF (automatic document feeder) scanner failure and the toner cartridge carousel alignment problem. Neither problems are not normal user repairable printer problems.

The scanner error code 5 requires the replacement of the ADF image scan unit.  This requires taking apart the ADF unit to install the scanner under the unit. The part costs between $167 to $247 depending upon HP current supply and market demand.  This part has been on national allocation several times over the past 2 years due to the demand for the printer scanner repair. The second most common problem with the copier printer scanner MFD HP 2840 which requires a trained technician is the toner cartridge carousel alignment repair.  In most a cases this problem just requires labor unless the carousel does not stay aligned but in some cases the carousel unit will need to be replaced.  This problem could be caused by normal usage, bumping the printer copier, and putting the toner cartridge in wrong causing a jam which results in a printer repair.  It takes a technician 1.5 to 2.5 hours to solve this problem. However, there are no guarantees that the problem stays solved. It is not unusual for the carousel to become mis-aligned a few days to a few months after the HP laser printer repair.

Printer copier faxes require a different type of surge protection than computers. If you have a computer and value your data and software then you should be using a UPS (battery power surge with surge protection) especially if you live in areas such as the lightening capital of America Miami or other areas with frequent thunder storms.  When the power  goes out the UPS will maintain power to your compute and monitor with an UPS for a set period of time. This time gives you the ability to normally shut down your computer without data lose.  However, you should never connect your printer, copier or fax machine to the UPS. Copier printers and fax machines draws too much amperage (different from voltage).  The amperage will shorten the life of your UPS and cause possible cause power feed back which destroy printer formatter, copier network connections and cost you a major printer copier repair bill. Put them on a good surge protector instead (see below about Joule ratings lightening spike stopping power)

The second power concern is not protecting all aspects of your copier printer scanner.  Most people realize that you need to protect the power line of the equipment. However, we receive more copier printer repair technician calls for failed communication boards due to power spikes than power supplies. Include pages in the lease that they know you will never use. They will ask you what is your estimated monthly volume then they add a few thousand pages and quote you the bunch of pages at a seeming low price.

Why pay for pages you never use? There is no page overage or lease refund! You pay the monthly price even if you do not print a single page.

First, check the actual paper if you are getting light areas or smears. It is damp or too dry (curls after printing). Digital copiers and laser printer use high heat to fuser the toner onto the paper. If the paper is damp or too dry it can cause problems.

Second, check your properties tap when you print. Is the right paper type selected?  Are you using semi or glossy paper in your copier printer?

Third, your laser printer or digital photocopier printer scanner uses a fuser assembly which heats to different temperatures depending upon the paper used. IN some photocopier printers and laser printers you can adjust the temperature on the fuser. Forth, check your laser printer toner cartridge and your copier scanners toner and drum unit. If you are getting a very thin line then 90% of the time it is caused by a scratched drum. In most HP laser printers and Lexmark printers the drum is in the toner cartridge so just replace the toner to see if the drum is the problem. If you have a brother, Okidata, digital copiers then the drums is usually separate from the toner cartridges. On desktop machine then the printer copier repair consist of the user replacing the drum unit.  If you have a business class digital photocopier printer scanner then usually you will need a service technician to solve the problem. In most cases they can just replace the drum/blade/developer parts instead of the whole drum unit to reduce your copier repair costs.
